The painting depicts a man from the thighs up, standing and facing slightly to the left with his face turned towards us. His right hand appears to be pointing downwards towards the bottom-left corner. He has a broad face with fair skin, rosy cheeks, a long nose, and small eyes. His shoulder-length brown hair has a slight wave. The man wears a long rust-colored coat with silver buttons and a white cravat, along with a white shirt and cuffs at his wrists. His left hand wears a white glove, and he is holding the other glove in that hand. He also holds a black hat under his left arm and has a sword tied to his waist. The background is dark, with a cloudy sky visible on the left and a ship sailing on dark, calm waters.
