Winslow Homer

Artist, American, 1836 - 1910

This painting shows a person in a canoe on a lake, with the horizon marked by a line of dense trees. The person in the canoe has pale skin and wears a light shirt, but their facial features are indistinct. The loose, fluid painting style features soft brushstrokes and a color palette of dark green, dark blue, pale blue, and white. The water reflects the dark trees and parts of the cloudy sky.
