The painting depicts a rural scene with horse-drawn carriage a dirt path, facing a gray building on the right. One man stands in front of the horses, holding their reigns, while another stands by the back of the carriage. On the right, a large group of people are gathered in front of the big gray house. The house has a red chimney on its sloping roof and two white doors, one of which is partially open. The crowd in front includes children and adults, a few with white and gray hair. All of the people have pale skin, and they wear clothes in bright shades of red, yellow, green, blue, brown, and black. Near the carriage, one of the women with gray hair appears to hand two large bags to a boy in a brown suit. In the bottom left corner, a man and a dog stand on the green grass beside the path, watching the progression of the carriage. In the background, rolling hills in shades of green, pale yellow, and light blue lead up towards a distant cluster of buildings near the top left corner. The blue sky is filled with gray and white clouds.
